Lubrication Systems for CNC Machines

Why CNC Machines Need Precision Lubrication

CNC machining centres, VMCs, HMCs, and turning centres have tight lubrication requirements that differ fundamentally from conventional machine tools. Guideways, ball screws, linear rails, and spindle bearings all demand precisely metered, timed oil delivery — too little oil causes premature wear and thermal growth errors; too much oil attracts swarf, contaminates coolant, and wastes lubricant.

A centralized oil lubrication system automates this process entirely. The system delivers a fixed, metered volume of oil to every lubrication point at programmed intervals — without operator involvement — ensuring consistent lubrication throughout the shift.

SP Engineers designs and supplies complete centralized lubrication systems for CNC machines from Faridabad, India. Our systems are used by machine tool builders and end users across India in automotive, aerospace, die & mould, and general engineering applications.

Recommended SP Engineers Products for CNC Lubrication
  • Motorized Lubrication Unit — the central pump unit; delivers timed, pressurised oil to all guideways and ball screws from a single reservoir
  • Metering Cartridge — installed at each lubrication point; delivers a precise, fixed volume of oil per cycle regardless of line length or back pressure
  • Progressive Distributor Block — distributes oil sequentially to multiple points; built-in fault detection if any point blocks
  • Electronic Timer — controls lubrication cycle interval and pump run time; programmable for each machine's duty cycle
  • Electronic Controller — advanced cycle control with alarm output to machine PLC on lubrication fault
  • Pressure Switch — confirms system pressure is reached each cycle; triggers alarm if pressure fails to build
  • In-Line Filter — fine filtration on pump outlet; protects metering cartridges from particulate contamination
  • Oil Mist Lubrication System — for high-speed spindle bearings where flood lubrication would cause overheating
How the System Works

The electronic timer triggers the motorized lubrication unit at set intervals — typically every 10–30 minutes depending on the machine's duty cycle. The pump pressurises the distribution line, and each metering cartridge dispenses its fixed oil volume to its assigned lubrication point. The pressure switch confirms that pressure has been reached, and the timer resets for the next cycle. If pressure fails to build, the controller signals the machine PLC to display an alarm — the machine can be set to halt at the next tool change or cycle end.

The entire sequence is automatic. Operators receive an alert only when intervention is actually needed.
