What Is a Lubrication Manifold?
A lubrication manifold is a steel block with one inlet and several outlet ports, used to split a single oil or grease supply line so it can feed multiple lubrication points from one pump. It's the simplest way to branch a lubrication circuit. Where one machine has several bearings clustered near each other, a manifold lets one supply line serve all of them instead of running a separate line from the pump to every point.
How a Lubrication Manifold Works
Lubricant enters the manifold through its single inlet port under pump pressure and is distributed to every outlet port simultaneously. Each outlet typically feeds a metering cartridge, which doses the exact quantity of lubricant required at that specific point, or connects onward to a further manifold or connector block to keep branching the circuit. The manifold itself does no metering; it's purely a distribution point. Metering happens at the cartridge, not the manifold.
Manifold vs Connector Block vs Progressive Distributor Block
These three terms get used loosely and interchangeably in the field, but they describe genuinely different components:

The practical difference is fault detection. A manifold or connector block is simpler and cheaper, but if one outlet blocks, lubricant keeps flowing to the others and nobody notices the starved point until a bearing fails. A progressive distributor block costs more but makes a single blockage detectable within one cycle, which is why it's preferred on critical, hard-to-inspect machinery.
When to Use a Manifold
A manifold is the right choice when lubrication points are physically close together, low in number, and not on equipment where a silent blockage would be costly, for example splitting a line to feed two or three bearings on a small machine, or as the first branch point at a motorized lubrication unit outlet before the circuit fans out further. For larger point counts or critical, hard-to-access machinery, a progressive distributor block is worth the extra cost for the self-monitoring alone.
